Respiratory Diseases

Asthma

Asthma is a reversible chronic inflammation of the larger airways. It is usually characterized by episodic wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath with activity.
The most important point in treatment of asthma is adequate controlling of inflammation. Untreated or undertreated asthma over time will turn to an irreversible scarring of the airways. At this point there is no effective treatments for asthma.
If the patient has typical symptoms they usually seek medical treatment. Children, adolescents, and younger athletes are the ones who won’t recognize the symptoms of mild asthma. It’s critical to screen and treat the disease in these group and prevent lifetime scarring of the lungs which will translate to lifetime irreversible symptoms of asthma.

Allergic Rhinitis

Uncontrolled allergic rhinitis or hay fever is a known cause of asthma. Chronic sinus infection is an other sequelae of allergic rhinitis. In many cases allergy, chronic sinus infection and asthma share the same origin and a good treatment plan can control the symptoms with a minimal amount of medication and side effects.

Smoking related diseases like emphysema, chronic bronchitis and COPD

These are another group of respiratory diseases that are under diagnosed. Screening and treating these diseases in a timely manner, will increase patients’ life expectancy and improve their quality of life.
